Character & Fitness Applications are submitted online with supporting documentation mailed to the Illinois Board of Admissions to the Bar. Supporting documentation includes driving record(s) covering the last 10 years and passport-style photographs. Visit the bar admission agency’s website for full details. Begin compiling the necessary information early, as it can be a time-consuming process.

General Bar Examination The examination is administered over two days in the format listed below.

Day One: Three questions drafted by Illinois examiners (IEE), one 90-minute Multistate Performance Test (MPT) question, and six Multistate Essay Exam (MEE) questions.

Day Two: Multistate Bar Exam (MBE), a 200-question multiplechoice exam

Scoring The essays are worth 40%, the MPT is worth 10%, and the MBE is worth 50%. Illinois uses an integrated scoring system. The passing score for the February 2017 exam is a 266 (out of 400). The passing score for the July 2017 bar exam is set at 268.

MPRE A scaled score of 80 on the MPRE is required for admission. The MPRE may be taken at any time. However, note that The Board of Bar Examiners must receive proof that the applicant received a passing score before the applicant will be recommended for admission to the bar. Application All applications must be filed electronically. The regular filing fee for a first-time test taker is $950 (includes character & fitness).
