HIT & RUN DRIVER IN STOLEN SUV ARRESTED DATE:

STOLEN VEHICLE:

Black 1998 Honda Passport SUV

On November 9, 2016, at approximately 10:18 A.M., Milpitas Police Officers responded to Montague Expressway near East Capitol Avenue on a report of a hit & run collision that had just occurred. A black 1998 Honda Passport SUV hit the center island under the light rail tracks, and the driver ran towards the Great Mall of the Bay Area. Officers found the SUV on the island with the engine running but no keys in the ignition. Suspected burglary tools were located inside the SUV. Officers located the driver, later identified as Robert Martinez, hiding in the bushes behind TownePlace Suites near the mall.

During the course of the investigation, the registered owner of the SUV was contacted, and it was determined the SUV had been stolen. Martinez had a felony $1,000,000 warrant for domestic violence charges and a felony no bail warrant for probation violation from the Merced County Sheriff’s Department. Martinez was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for automobile theft, hit & run, possession of burglary tools, driving on a suspended license, and the warrants.
