Door design rating Explanation of tables The Australian Standard AS 2047 requires that doors be rated for design wind load pressure. That rating is the number of pascals that the door will withstand and comply to the standard for performance. The rating required depends on factors such as geographic location, height of building and degree of exposure (terrain category) and can vary from under 500 Pa to more than 3000 Pa. When the purchaser does not nominate the rating required, the chart published on the following page of this manual may be used as a guide. The rating for a given door depends on its size, the strength of its vertical and horizontal members and the glass type and thickness. The tables on the following page may be used to determine the safe rating for a given door or to select the most appropriate specification for a nominated rating. The tables give ratings for nominal panel sizes from which two, three or four panel assemblies can be configures. e.g. a nominal panel size of 2400 x 1200 will suit 2400 high x 2400 XO, 3600 XXO or 4880 wide OXXO respectively. To determine the rating for a particular panel size, it is necessary to check the individual ratings based on: Strength of interlocks Strength of midrails when applicable Strength of glass Then use lowest rating figure obtained from above. Conversely, if the panel size and required pascal rating are known, the minimum specifications can be determined.

Notes on tables: 1. Overall panel size = Door height - 67mm. 2. The tables on page 7 and Figure are based on theoretical section properties, not on approved tests as specified by AS 2047. 3. Doors for housing use serviceability limit state method (l/150 deflection) in all applications. 4. Doors for residential buildings other than housing use ultimate limit state method and serviceability limit state design method (l/180 deflection). 5. Doors for buildings other than residential buildings and housing use ultimate limit state method and serviceability limit state design method (l/250 deflection). Suitability needs to be referred to Capral’s qualified engineer. 6. Glass selection should be referred to your glass supplier. 7. Midrails are available for use with this suite. These can be used to increase the torsional rigidity if that is required. 8. Refer to Capral’s qualified engineer or your Capral Account Manager for recommendations.
